Key Characteristics and Types:

• Growth Habit: Strawberry plants are low-growing herbaceous plants that produce a central crown, from which leaves and runners emerge. Runners are horizontal stems that can root and produce new plants, a process called vegetative propagation.
• Foliage and Flowers: The leaves are typically compound, with three toothed leaflets. The flowers, usually white with a yellow center, appear in small clusters.
• Three Main Types of Strawberry Plants:
  • June-bearing: This is the most common type, producing a single, large crop of fruit over a few weeks in late spring or early summer.
  • Everbearing: These varieties produce a smaller crop in the spring and then continue to produce fruit in flushes throughout the summer and fall.
  • Day-neutral: These plants produce fruit continuously throughout the growing season as long as temperatures remain between 35°F and 85°F (1.7-29.4°C).
